    His kids were grown and out of the house. He didn't want to disappoint the grandkids...

He also felt a "duty" or "obligation" to W. She was very dependent on him. I, on the other hand, am pretty independent. I guess he figured she needed him more?

He had a whole laundry list of reasons, or excuses, or whatever you want to call them depending on your view point. He did not, however, stay with her because he loved her more. I am certain of that one. In the end the reason(s) don't matter all that much (though it would make it easier to understand if his reasons made sense). Bottom line, he chose to stay with her and left me in the dust.
