The Rings
by SheeDevil 98

My gaze settles upon our wedding bands
Lying against each other
In the motel room ashtray
Yours burnished with time
Mine still shiny and new
I am filled with a poignant rage
That grips my heart icily
I silently curse the fate that allows
Two lovers so obviously made for each other
To be bound by vows to someone else
Tears well up in my eyes
As I lovingly stroke your ring
Wishing I had been the one to
Place it on your finger
The very insistence of you
To take them off before our act of love
Tells me so very much
It tells me you love me
It tells me you care for me
It tells me you want nothing
To interfere with our special times together
And while I may not be the one
Bound to you by that ring
I know that we are bound
By our hearts
As you gather me in your arms
And my gaze settles upon the love in your eyes
